T'Pol contracted Pa'nar through the mind meld with Tolaris. It is only common among the disrespected subculture of "melders". When the Vulcan physicians find out that T'Pol is suffering from the disease, she is going to be relieved of duty. In an attempt to save T'Pol's career, Archer suggests that she should mention that she is not a member of the minority and was infected by force, but T'Pol thinks that this would only reaffirm the prejudices about the minority. Dr. Yuris, one of the Vulcan delegates, eventually reveals the truth about T'Pol's illness, and he confesses that he himself belongs to the minority.
