One of the many similarities between our universe and the mirror version is the presence of this Klingon vessel. Like many aspects of the mirror reality the ship is similar but significantly different. The most obvious external difference between the Regency and the Negh'Var classes is that of size; the mirror vessel is some 4.5 kilometres in length, obviously built to be an imposing sight which will strike fear into the enemies of the Klingons.
When the Terran rebels captured Terok Nor the Klingon regent, Worf, sent a fleet led by the Regency 1 against the station. In anticipation of the attack the rebels had constructed a copy of the USS Defiant from plans 'liberated' from Deep Space Nine. Unfortunately for them, they had been unable to solve the design problems which plagued the Defiant in our own universe. With the Klingons bearing down upon the station, the rebels lured Captain Sisko to the station and convinced him to assist with the battle.
Even more than the Negh'Var, the Regency appears to be built around the concept of an all out assault against massive defences. The overall strength of the ship on the standard starfleet scale is hard to judge accurately, but is likely in excess of 15,000. However, the designers appear to have largely ignored the possibility of attack by small, agile defenders. The Defiant was therefore able to avoid much of the ship's massive firepower whilst inflicting a stream of damage in return. In this respect the strength of the ship could be considered to be less than 1,500, but this is somewhat misleading. The starfleet strength scale is not intended to take account of the skill or luck of individual crews, but rather to give an impression of how two vessels would fare in a battle in which they traded fire with one another using conventional skills and tactics. In this kind of battle the Defiant would not have stood any chance against the Regency, and it is surely a tribute to Captain Sisko's skills that he was able to overcome such odds.
Although defeated, the Regency survived the attack and retreated from the battle. It later met the Defiant again during the regent's attempts to acquire cloaking technology, and although the cloak gave it a considerable advantage it again proved vulnerable to the tough little ship.
