Slades Star Trek

Text Game
OBJECTIVE
You are Captain of the starship "Enterprise" with a mission to seek and destroy a fleet of Klingon warships which are menacing the United Federation of Planets. You have a specified number of stardates in which to complete your mission. You also have Federation Starbases for resupplying your ship.
START OF GAME
You will be assigned a starting position somewhere in the galaxy. The galaxy is divided into an 8x8 grid of Quadrants. The astronomical name of a quadrant is called out upon entry into a new region. Each quadrant is further divided into an 8x8 grid of Sectors.

SHORT RANGE SENSORS
On a Sector diagram, the following symbols are used:
- E = Enterprise
- K = Klingon warship
- B = Starbase
- * = Star
Short Range Scan for Quadrant 2,3 ------------------------ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 * Stardate 2320 2 B K Condition Red 3 K * Quadrant 2,3 4 * E * Sector 4,4 5 * Photons 10 6 * * Energy 2950 7 * Shields 10 8 * * Klingons 26 ------------------------
TACTICAL COMMANDS
You have seven tactical commands available to you.
- Impulse Engines provides direction and energy unit controls enabling the Enterprise to maneuver around this quadrant and into its neighbors.
- Warp Drive provides direction and warp energy unit control enabling the Enterprise to maneuver around the galaxy.
- Fire Phasers provides energy unit control but their power falls off with distance to the Klingon warship.
- Fire Photon torpedo provides directional control and will destroy a Klingon warship with a single hit, but they have to be aimed using polar coordinates, so misses are possible.
- Shields control provides energy unit control to the main shields of the Enterprise preventing most of the Klingon warship damage.
- Damage Report provides a complete list of Enterprise device state of repairs in number of star days.
- Status Report prints out the Starfleet mission, number of remaining Klingon warship, and number of remaining Star Days to complete the mission.
LIBRARY COMPUTER COMMANDS
You have six computer commands available to you.
- Short Range Sensors displays the current quadrant as described above.
- Long Range Sensors scan prints out an abbreviated map of the quadrants lying directly around the Enterprise, listing only the number of Stars, Klingons and Starbases.
Long Range Scan for quadrant 2,3 ------------------- : 001 008 301 : : 008 116 005 : : 005 008 006 : -------------------
STATUS REPORTS
Certain reports on the ships status are made by officers of the Enterprise who appeared on the original TV Show - Spock, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, Checkov, etc.
KLINGON WARSHIPS
Klingons are non-stationary within their quadrants. If you try to maneuver on them, they will move and fire on you.
WHEN KLINGONS ATTACK
Firing and damage notes:
- Phaser fire diminishes with increased distance between combatants.
- If a Klingon zaps you hard enough (relative to your shield strength) it will generally cause damage to some part of your ship with an appropriate "Damange Control" report resulting.
- If you dont zap a Klingon hard enough (relative to his shield strngth) you wont damage him at all. Your sensors will tell the story.
- Damage control will let you know when out-of-commission devices have been completely repaired.
BAD NAVIGATION
Your engines will aically shut down if you should attempt to leave the galaxy, or if you should try to maneuver through a star, a Starbase, or - heaven help me - a Klingon warship.
SHIELD ENERGY
In a pinch, of if you should miscalculate slightly, some shield control energy will be aically diverted to warp engine control (if your shields are operational!).
STARBASES
Starbases are scattered around the Galaxy providing a safe haven while youre docked. During your stay, a team of technicians will repair your ship, restore you to full energy, and restock your photon torpedo inventory.
If, you should cold-bloodedly destroy a Starbase, you will get a nasty note from Starfleet Command. If you destroy your last Starbase, you loose the game!
END OF GAME
End game logic makes it possible to get a new command after successfully completing your mission.
