Hviezdny dátum nie je daný: Počas pikniku na cudzej planéte sa osemročná Molly O'Brien prepadne do časového portálu a ocitne sa 300 rokov v budúcnosti. Posádke sa podarí získať Molly z portálu, ale výpočty sú posunuté o desať rokov. Molly, ktorá sa vracia, strávila celé desaťročie sama na planéte. O'Brienovci pripravia pre svoju divokú dcéru špeciálnu miestnosť so stromom a simuláciou holopaluby, no keď zraní hosťa Quarkovho baru, predstavitelia Federácie rozhodnú, že ju radšej odvezú do opatrovateľského centra. O'Brienovci, ktorí nechcú vydať svoju dcéru a majú obavy o jej blaho, urobia ťažké rozhodnutie: vrátia Molly tam, odkiaľ prišla, 300 rokov do budúcnosti na mimozemskú planétu. Keď tam príde 18-ročná Molly, stretne svoj smutný mladý náprotivok a pošle ju späť cez portál.

Stardate not given: During a picnic on an alien planet, eight-year-old Molly O'Brien falls into a time portal and finds herself 300 years in the future. The crew manages to retrieve Molly from the portal, but the calculations are off by ten years. The Molly that returns has spent a whole decade alone on the planet. The O'Briens prepare a special room with a tree and a holodeck simulation for their savage daughter, but when she injures a guest of Quark's bar, Federation officials decide that she better be taken to a care center. Unwilling to give their daughter away and worried about her welfare, the O'Briens make a hard decision: They return Molly to where she came from, 300 years into the future on the alien planet. When 18-year-old Molly arrives there, she encounters her sad young counterpart and sends her back through the portal.
