Vulcan is the second planet out of seven planets orbiting the star 40 Eridani A and is the home world of an advanced humanoid species of Vulcans and therefore Romulans and extinct Debruns. The planet has no moons, but it has a sister planet. The Vulcan is slightly larger than Earth, so its Vulcan inhabitants have more power than humans due to higher gravity. The planet's climate is also less friendly than the Earth's average: the atmosphere has a lower oxygen content and temperatures are higher. As a result, Vulcan is a rugged, more or less arid world with large deserts, plus a number of active volcanoes. The volcano belongs to the desert planets, but there are also two shallow and warm seas, which cover 28% of the surface. The most important institution is the Vulcan Academy of Sciences and one of the largest shipyards in the federation is located in orbit.
